Weld is a really great feature in Cricut Design Space that you’re going to want to know how to use. Just like you would weld metal, the weld features will stick two of your parts together so that they will cut all in one rather than as separate pieces.

You can put several images together to create more complex shapes, and those could be shapes so that you can make a bigger shape, or you might want to weld text (for example script fonts) because when you select them, the individual letters are all separate. Or you might want to add a shape to text, for example, weld some stars to “Merry Christmas” on a greetings card.

Be aware that weld is permanent and if you aren’t sure whether you want the images joined together, you should use the attach or group tools instead.

Please – tell me how to weld!

Have you tried engraving on the Cricut Maker? This was my first time giving it a try and I love how it turned out on the black stainless steel! This is a credit card bottle opener that I made for my husband for Father’s Day. ? You need the Maker machine to use the Cricut engraving tool but I think it would be fun to add adhesive vinyl to these as well! I have a full tutorial on my YouTube channel and if you like this image you can check out my Patreon account for more info. Okay – it’s time to talk welding! (As long as you read right to the end before you click anything. It’s necessary – we promise!

In Design Space, select all the layers you want to weld, either by clicking and dragging the mouse or click each layer with the CTRL key held down.

Now all you need to do is click ‘Weld’, which is in the Canvas down at the bottom of the layers panel. Now your design is just one shape, and your Cricut will cut it all in one. Pretty neat, hey?

Yay, let’s get welding! Wait… How do I unweld?

We hate to break it to you. But you can’t. Remember when we said that the weld feature is permanent? And when we said that weld on Cricut is just like welding metal?

So, don’t weld unless you’re absolutely positive you want these images connected.

Happy welding!
