Traxxas 77076-4 X-Maxx Electric RC Monster Truck Review

First up we’ve got the Traxxas 77076-4 X-Maxx, which I’m happy to admit to being the proud owner of. If you want to feel like a big kid with a serious piece of machinery, this is the best RC truck for you. It’s big, powerful, yet relatively easy to drive and is sure to be the envy of all your RC buddies.

Features include Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) which enables you to intricately control wheel spin and steering around turns. It also has self-righting action meaning the X-Maxx will flip itself upright if it rolls. Two Li-Po 5000mAh batteries are required which can be purchased in a pack alongside a dual charger. While this certainly adds to the cost, in my opinion this model is worth it.

This RC truck reaches up to around 50mph which is very fast for a monster truck, although if you wanted to make it faster you could adjust the gearing. It’s the best RC monster truck on the market!

Redcat Racing Blackout SC PRO 1/10 Scale Electric RC Truck Review

Another truck guaranteed to provide that adrenaline boost is the Redcat Racing Blackout short course truck. I know what you’re thinking, ‘a truck that isn’t Traxxas?’ and yes, while it’s difficult to stray away from the beloved Traxxas, this little model provides a great alternative.

Firstly, it’s a lot cheaper than the Traxxas trucks making it an instant winner. The brushless electric motor is powerful, and it comes with a Li-Po battery and charger. It’s lightweight, with great shock absorption and, for the price you pay, it’s speedy.

Finally, this truck is durable, easy to upgrade and powerful. This is the best RC truck for you if you don’t want to splash out on the Traxxas products.

Traxxas Slash 1/10 Scale 2WD Short Course RC Truck Review

Next up we’ve got the Traxxas Slash Short Course Truck which is another super little RC truck and great for those who don’t want to splash out on the Traxxas 77076.

First things first, the exterior is decorated in Hawaiian. This alone is enough for me to throw all my cash towards this model, but I suppose I should let you know about the features too.

The motor is brushless, the electronics waterproof meaning it can be driven in all weather and this truck reaches speeds of up to 30mph (although those who fancy giving it an upgrade may reach some higher speeds).

The brushless motor is powerful, the bumpers tough and the NiMh battery and charger included. All in all, a 10/10 model that will guarantee you hours of fun. For the money it’s one of the best RC trucks around!

Traxxas 58076-3 1/10 Slash VXL RC Racing Truck Review

Next up we’ve got the Traxxas Slash VXL, a nifty little truck that includes Stability Management (TSM), superior turning algorithms to control wheel spin, and a powerful brushless motor.

This model is easy and fun to drive, and the stability management works really well. It’s one of the most durable RC trucks, I’ve certainly done a fair bit of bashing around and it’s yet to show any damage. It’s also fast and powerful. The price includes a 7-cell 3000mAh NiMh battery, but the general consensus among those in-the-know is to upgrade it to LiPo batteries!

Team Redcat TR-MT10E 1/10 Scale RC Monster Truck Review

Next up, we’ve got another Team Redcat mode, this time in the form of the TR-MT10E monster truck. Sure, it might not be a Traxxas, but I really liked this truck. The value is great, it’s powerful, 4 wheel drive and includes a brushless motor. It comes with a heavy duty waterproof servo and waterproof receiver, and I loved the whole look of it.

It includes everything you need aside from the LiPo batteries and charger, which will add to the cost of the product, but for the price this isn’t too much of an issue. Adjusting the gears or batteries will give you a little more speed, but I think this is the best RC truck for kids or beginners!

Traxxass 1/10 Slash 4x4 Brushless Short Course RC Truck Review

Next up we’ve got the Traxxas 1/10 Slash short course truck, which is pretty awesome! The high-power brushless motor means this little truck can reach over 60mph, making it one of the fastest on the list. If you want pure speed, this is the best RC truck for you.

It arrives fully assembled, however you will still need to purchase a transmitter and receiver, battery and charger separately, which I know might put some people off. You will also need to paint the body, so if you’re after something ‘almost’ ready-to-run, this should be the go-to.

Traxxas 53097 Revo 3.3 4WD Nitro-Powered RC Monster Truck Review

Another Traxxas model next and we’ve got the Revo which, to put it simply, I have no complaints about. It’s completely ready-to-run, all you need is batteries for the transmitter and fuel. If you want a ready-to-run truck this is the best RC truck for you.

I love this RC truck purely for its simplicity. It’s easy to drive, good for kids but still provides a well needed adrenaline dose if you so desire! All in all, a powerful, great looking truck that, although expensive, arrives fully assembled and ready to start having some fun with!

Traxxas Unlimited Desert Racer RC Race Truck Review

Back to the Traxxas! This time it’s the Unlimited Desert Racer which, yes, costs an arm and a leg, but boy is it worth it. This model is engineered for racing and it certainly delivers. It reaches speeds of 50+ mph without even breaking a sweat, and the power is, quite simply, second to none.

The 6s LiPos and 4-link solid rear axle design make this truck exceptionally powerful and fast, yet still easy to control and drive. Racing wise, it’ll take you from zero to hero in just a few days, and the whole model has been designed specifically to absorb shock and let the suspension do the work.

If you’re happy to splash out on the best RC truck around then this has to be the first choice on your list.

Traxxas 37054-1 Rustler: RC Stadium Truck Review

Next up, the Traxxas 37054-1 Rustler Stadium Truck. I absolutely love this model. It’s one of the best RC trucks because it’s affordable, simple and speedy, with waterproof electronics for all weather driving.

The battery included is Ni-Mh making it not quite as speedy as some of the other options, but for a first truck this is a perfect option. It’s not designed for huge speeds, but it is powerful and tough.

If you crash it, this Traxxas truck is easy to repair, and upgrading it to reach higher speeds is a relatively simple process.

The Bigfoot includes a 7-cell Ni-Mh battery, fast charger, and a waterproof receiver box to allow for all weather fun. The radio system is great for all day driving and the truck is both durable and, well, monstrous.

If you’re after the best RC truck that is a little more extravagant, let me introduce the T-Maxx 4WD monster truck which ticks all the monster truck boxes – albeit for a few hundred dollars more!

Reaching speeds of up to 40mph, the T-Maxx doesn’t hide in the corner. It’s been awarded the Best Nitro truck for four years running, and currently stands as the number 1 best-selling monster truck – for good reason!

The Maxx Chevron tires are tough, the low-profile design delivering agile handling, and this truck performs brilliantly on practically any terrain.

What to Look for in an RC Truck

Without going into too much detail, there’s a few decisions that need to be made before you start looking for the best RC truck – if only to make the shopping experience slightly easier!

Deciding what you want before you purchase anything will ensure you don’t spend money unnecessarily or, if you are a beginner, it’ll stop you buying something that’s too much for you. Here’s an (albeit basic) rundown on what to look for in your RC truck.

Truck Type

Monster truck, stadium truck or short-course truck are your three main options when it comes to RCs. Monster trucks have huge tires and suspension – often with the ability to take down anything in their path. They aren’t particularly fast, but they can certainly do some damage!

Stadium trucks are more like buggies than monster trucks. They will generally have good suspension and a truck-style body – essentially combination of monster trucks and buggies. These are good all-rounders and will handle most terrains, albeit with some difficulty on the tougher ones.

Finally we’ve got short course trucks. These are narrower than Stadium trucks and buggies, and will have smaller wheels with less suspension and ground clearance. These are great on pavement and flat surfaces, but may struggle on tougher terrains. These can be powerful and fast so great if you want something adrenaline boosting!

Battery

Ni-Mh or Li-Po are your two battery options when it comes to RCs. Ni-Mh are easier to use but less powerful. These are best used if you’re a beginner. Those with slightly more experience might opt for the Li-Po. These are expensive, harder to store but they will make a huge difference to the speed of your RC – proceed with caution!

Motor

All trucks on this list are with a brushless motor, although brushed is another option. Brushless motors are more efficient and will give your RC truck that extra boost of power.

Brand

While I don’t advocate solely looking at the label, buying from a reputable brand is your best bet. That’s why all the RCs on this list come from brands that I know and trust. That way, if something breaks or you require some help with your RC, you can be sure that the customer service is top notch.

DIY or Ready-to-Run?

If you’re feeling lazy (not really), opt for a ready-to-run. This just means it arrives ready to go and you’ll need to do minimal in the way of preparation to get started. DIY will allow you to get stuck into the mechanics, although you will need to buy some more features which can add to the cost. It all depends on whether you’re after a fun project or just want to get driving.

2WD or 4WD?

2WD are cheaper, easier to maintain and more durable, but they don’t offer as much in the way of speed. 4WDs are stable, grippy and will be slightly more aggressive in style which, let’s face it, is why many of us get into RC trucks! Adrenaline junkies should go for a 4WD, but 2WD models can still provide hours of fun.
